W.G. MacFarlane Publishing Co. Ltd. was founded by William Godsoe MacFarlane and was in existence from about 1901 to 1914. The company had offices in Toronto and Buffalo, New York.

John Innes was born in 1863 in London, Ont., studied in Ontario and in England at Dufferin Military Academy. After many years in the Rockies, he returned to Toronto where he worked as a writer and illustrator. MacFarland published many of his paintings as postcards. He died in 1941.

"Cow and calf round-up. On a round-up all the cattle are gathered together into one large herd. The cowboys of the owners of the different brands then 'cut out' their employers' cattle and drive them to their home range."
